For two years, movie director Karin af Klintberg approached and courted the Swedish Royal Court to portray the King of Sweden. Finally, they accepted and she got a unique possibility to follow King Carl XVI Gustaf closely, as the first journalist ever. The recordings began in 2021 and they met several times during the production of this documentary. Sometimes at a distance during formal circumstances, like at initiations or state visits. Other times, one-to-one meetings at the Royal Palace or at Solliden, the King's summer residence in Öland. Karin and the King discussed everything from the king's childhood to the highs and lows of being a king. This is the first documentary in history with and about a king while he's still alive. The king's predecessors never gave interviews. This is the three-part-series version of the feature film, produced for SVT1.
